QSL card collection

●The QSL card serves as a proof of evidence for amateur radio communication. It is also important when participating in awards.
Many of the QSL cards are postcard-sized and color-printed photographs, and it is fun to collect them by reviving the memories of communication. It is also a memory when you can make DX communication with various parts of Japan and overseas.
If you are currently a JARL member, sending a QSL card to JARL will sort it out and deliver it to the other station, which is convenient. I am also looking forward to collecting QSL cards.

Work on what you want to do in ham (DX communication, etc.)

   ● There are many ways to enjoy amateur radio, as introduced in How to enjoy amateur radio. Please decide what you want to do and work on it. This method seems to be a good way to continue ham.
For example, suppose you want to do DX communication. It seems that amateur radio can communicate with various parts of Japan and overseas.
Communication by general ionospheric reflection, amateur radio via the Internet, etc. There are also digital communication D-STAR and WIRES-X. There is fun while aiming for self-research of antennas and radios and gradually upgrading with DX communication of ionospheric reflection.

Digital communication

●For amateur radio, digital communication has begun, and there are also WIRES-X, etc. in addition to D-STAR, which is being promoted by FT-8 and JARL.
In the past, communication with foreign countries seemed to require effort and an optimal operating environment, but now Apaman Ham has installed mobile whip antennas on the balcony as well as HF / 50 / VU all-mode radios. You can also communicate with FT-8. After connecting a personal computer to the radio and setting the FT-8, if the environment is good, it will be unexpectedly connected to various parts of Japan and overseas.
If you register with eQSL, you will be looking forward to receiving electronic QSL cards from overseas stations as soon as possible.

Join the club and make friends

●With amateur radio, you can obtain a license and open the station individually. However, amateur radio is a deep hobby in many ways. When I first opened Ham, I personally did amateur radio. I wanted to do amateur radio with HF. I didn't know what to do with the ham I lived in my apartment. Until recently, only 430MHz could be communicated. So I couldn't really enjoy ham radio.
In the second year of Reiwa, amateur radio was restarted. This time, I reflected on what I had done so far. I took the plunge and joined the ham club. At the club, if you ask your senior Ham what you don't understand, he will kindly tell you. Various problems have been solved one by one. I was a ham living in an apartment. However, HF 7MHz, 21MHz, 50MHz, 144MHz, and other bands can now communicate.
It was fun to join the club and make many amateur radio friends. It was also written in the Amateur Radio Primer that it would be better to join Ham's club to continue amateur radio. If you are new to ham, we recommend joining a local club.

Award

   ● An award is a certificate that certifies and praises the achievements such as the area and number of stations communicated by amateur radio. Awards are issued by amateur radio organizations, clubs, and individuals around the world, including JARL, and there are various awards, from easy to difficult, depending on the application conditions.
It is also fun to communicate with the goal of getting an award while improving the technology and operation of amateur radio. There are also many awards issued to SWL. (Reference: Introduction of the awards issued by JARL "Let's enjoy the award hunt!")
The number of stations that communicated will increase if you continue to communicate with amateur radio. QSL cards will also increase. Then the corresponding award will be made. There are cases where you decide the award you want to get and try it, and there are cases where the corresponding award comes out and you can apply for the award and get it
It is the result of communication as an amateur radio station, and it can be said that it is a certificate, so I felt that I was looking forward to acquiring it.
In the book Amateur Radio Awards Hunt Guide, 「Finding and striving to complete a target amateur radio award will help motivate amateur radio and improve your own radio technology and operational techniques. Will support your own growth. That is one of the attractions of the award. 」 I also felt that trying the award was a key to enjoying amateur radio and continuing for a long time.

Mobile operation

   ● In particular, V / U / SHF band radio waves usually fly only within the line-of-sight range. Therefore, Ham, who enjoys these bands, often goes out to places with a good view, such as small hills and mountain peaks, and enjoys mobile operation.
In a place with a good view, the radio waves will fly better, so you can enjoy "radio called by many". "The real thrill of being called" is also expressed in the form of "pile up". Pile-up says "to be called by many stations at once".
"The taste of this pile is irresistible ..." Avid mobile operation fans often say these words, but it may be an expression that really honestly expresses "the fun of mobile operation".
(Reference: JARL HP "Starting Operation Style")
You can also go to the mountains and operate with a handy radio in one hand and an additional battery. There seems to be some ham stations that use handy machines to move in front of the station. You can also take a handy machine and go to a nearby park for mobile operation.

Contest

●Amateur radio contests (English: contesting) are competitions in which points are competed by communicating with more stations within a specified time. (Reference: Free encyclopedia 'Wikipedia')
Every New Year, a QSO party is held as a New Year's greeting. This is an opportunity to meet many ham stations.
I also got a license at the JARD class. JARD will perform a 'HAMtte communication party'.
There is also a contest held at the same time every year, so you can enjoy it.
Competing for rankings is important in the contest, but it is also a place for beginners to practice to improve their wireless operation skills. You can enjoy it.
You will also have the opportunity to communicate with many ham stations at once. It's also an opportunity to get to know many ham friends. There seems to be a ham station that meets only in the contest every year.

self made

   ● I have been a boy who loves electricity since I was a kid. When I was a kid, I used CB Radio with my school friends. I was also interested in radio. I bought a kit with all the radio parts. I made a simple radio with a soldering iron in one hand. It seems that some ham people made radios and amplifiers. Currently, many people seem to make their own handmade antennas.
I think ready-made products are also good. However, I feel attached to what I made. I admire anyone who can make something useful for amateur radio. On ham radio, there are self-made contests at ham fairs and self-made contests at each club. There seems to be a place to make various things. Good works also seem to receive awards.

CW (Morse code)

●I heard from a ham instructor about Morse code (CW). CW is currently used only by amateur radio. It reaches far away with an unexpectedly small output, and it seems that DX can be expected. In Japan, it seems that it can be operated from the third grade amateur radio license qualification.
Even if you don't speak English, if you get a qualification and master Morse code, you can communicate with the world.
I am also attracted to Morse code. However, CW has not been done yet. If possible, I would like to be able to do CW.

Advanced Qualification Challenge

●I obtained a 4th grade amateur radio license, applied for a license, and communicated with Ham for the first time in 1995. After that, I was communicating with Ham for a while. However, due to circumstances, I quit ham. After that, in 2020, I restarted amateur radio. At that time, I thought about a change of heart. I've wanted to be a ham radio license since I was a kid. And my dream was to enjoy amateur radio. I went back to my starting point and thought about the meaning and need for ham radio for me. And I reflected on the future operation of amateurs. I pondered and considered. It has been one year since the amateur radio reopened. Thanks to that, I can now feel the fun of amateur radio.
When I restarted amateur radio, I thought about improving the operating environment. I felt that I wanted to increase the transmission output and the frequency used, aiming for advanced qualification. So I took a class of JARD amateur radio 3rd grade qualification and got the qualification. 18MHz can be used and the output can be 50W. The instructor further recommended that I acquire the amateur radio level 2 qualification. I also tried to acquire amateur radio level 2 qualification by 2 amateur e-learning of JARD. I learned a lot. I worked hard with the support of JARD teachers and my fellow students, and passed the amateur radio level 2 qualification.
I feel the benefits of getting an advanced qualification. The ham radio level 2 qualification has a higher transmission output and more frequencies that can be used. In Ham 2 class, transmission output up to 200W and all frequencies that can be used by amateur radio can be used. I also felt that the telecommunications DX would be within reach.
If I could pass the advanced qualification, I got a sense of accomplishment that I passed the qualification. And the operating environment has improved. I would also recommend you to pursue advanced qualifications if possible. Thank you.
